Special Interest Group | Remote sensing for UN Sustainable Development Goals

About the SIG RS for UN-SDG

Considering the importance of the sustainable development worldwide, creating an EARSeL SIG group devoted to the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations is proposed. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) includes 17 global goals set by the United Nations at the UN Summit in 2015 where the Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has been adopted.  The SDGs cover the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection addressing a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. Earth Observation has a crucial role in achieving SDGs providing technologies for monitoring and analyzing the conditions of different environments and what is more important, today, thanks to the long term period of Earth Observation we have data for several decades. Today, we may rely on remote sensing data available for almost half a century and to detect changes occurred to the Earth surface.
